BMGM has been in continuous operation since 1981 that includes variations of the name of the firm since inception. The firm can trace its history back to 1968 in the local area. The firm has over 30 years experience. Jack Burrey joined the firm of Bushey, Burrey Architects in 1968 and for the next 10 years the firm was the dominant architectural firm in Western Maryland for educational facilities from Allegany to Frederick Counties among all their other work during that era. In 1981 after the break up of the partnership, Jack Burrey established J.C. Burrey/Architects continuing work in educational facilities and many other project types. In 1995 the firm was practicing as Burrey + Moser Architects. The firm’s name was modified in 1998 to Burrey Moser Gehr Architects when Michael Gehr joined the firm as a principal, when Jack Burrey retired a new corporate creating management structure.

To expand the firm’s size, capabilities, and widen the range of projects as a general practice, the firm merged with Lakin & Moats Architects in January of 2002 to create the current firm structure of BMGM Architects. David Moats was named a principal during the merger. Eleanor Lakin has retired. Our office located in Hagerstown, is a leased space containing approximately 2,100 sq ft on two levels of an old Farm House (c 1800) that has a number of additions. The original structure is log with the center portion brick cased. Though not ideal as an office due to building layout, the office location allows quick access to the interstates for travel.
